Extra-High Rings

In answer to the need of many customers who want to mount scopes with extraordinarily large ends, Conetrol has in inventory a line of horizontally split extra-high 1" and 30mm rings for use with scopes which its highest projectionless rings simply will not mount. These rings are same as our Quik-Zero rings except that their studs are smaller to enable windage adjustment.  (More technical information can be found about the horizontally split rings on the Quik-Zero Rings webpage and on the Quick Detach webpage.)

These rings are available in three regular heights - 5/32", 9/32" and 13/32" - with the stock numbers HSL (Horizontal Split, Low) designating low, HSM (Horizontal Split, Medium) designating medium and HSH (Horizontal Split, High) designating high.  (In the rare instances when still greater height is asked for by the customer we can provide rings a full 1/2" high, designated by the stock number HSHH (Horizontal Split High High.)

The extra-high rings fit all Conetrol bases, which of course have windage adjustment built in.   Finished with a high gloss similar to our Gunnur and Custum rings, they are priced at $49.98 each, $99.96 per pair for the 1-inch size,   and $59.97 each,   $119.94 per pair for the 30mm size.   (Matte blue finish is available for 50% extra cost, as well as silver.   Also available in the extra-high design are engraved rings; these are double normal cost.)

Not to be overlooked is a predominant attribute of all Conetrol horizontal-split rings --- absence of torque.   This is a gift of hard-twisted-on but still turnable ring studs that is provided by no other mount.   For other mounts the question is not whether they inflict torque; the question is how much.

Some food for thought for Conetrol customers who have chosen a rifle and/or scope that necessitates use of Extra-High Rings going in:

Once it is determined that the sleek projectionless Conetrol rings cannot be used due to bolt- or barrel-clearance problems, the scope-mount buyer might want to contemplate going to either Quik-Zero Rings (which webpage see) or Conetrol's Adjust-Quik-Detach system (see Quick Detach webpage), both of which employ horizontal-split rings that are identical in appearance to our Extra-High Rings. These options afford two great virtues -- (1) absence of torque and (2) very simple and very accurate return to zero.

The Adjust-Quik-Detach system does incorporate Conetrol's famed dual-ring windage adjustment but because it is a new offering relatively few AQD bases are yet available. Quik-Zero Rings, on the other hand, can be used with any standard Conetrol base and are different from the Extra-High Rings only in that they are without windage adjustment (which is not needed if barrel, action and attachment screwholes happen to be properly aligned).

A few additional facts worth some hard thought: when our Extra-High Rings have to be used  even old customers long smitten by Conetrol's sleek projectionless rings might get around to thinking: well if I have to use regular horizontal-split rings like those offered by other mount makers I might as well save some money by buying one of the other mounts.  Not so fast: other mounts are indeed cheaper than Conetrol but (1) they don't provide adjustment in both rings to keep a scope centered over gun after adjustment, (2) they don't provide equal and maximum strength in both rings and (3) they don't compensate for wear after repeated detachment and attachment.   And then there's torque.

In pursuit of sufficient strength you might buy one of their dual-dovetail versions but it won't compensate for wear and it won't return to zero and the scope must be taken completely out of the rings for detachment.  So if you want nonadjustable maximum-strength rings which will both detach and return to zero easily and compensate for wear in the process, you need look no further than our Quik-Zero Rings webpage.
